In case you hadn't heard since you live in a cave or are dead, Indiana Jones #4 came out today. We've got our tickets for Saturday morning, (believe me, I'm dying to see it and would've rather gone today, but such is life!) but I got the Soundtrack today (which is especially cool because it's not officially released til the 27th, but Amazon shipped it early--wahoo!)

Mother's Day, Monkey Brains, and a New Car!
Alright, got a bit of stuff to talk about. I would’ve updated my blog earlier, but I’ve had a wild week. We were given less than a week to do a Comcast commercial for work—including character design and me trying to animate the dang thing frame by frame (TIP: don’t choose frame-by-frame animation for a commercial that’s due in a week). I brought the files home every night and on the weekend to try to get ahead on it. Then Tuesday morning, my boss looked at the 30+ hours of work I’d done and said, “This isn’t going to work. We need to do something else.” So we scrapped all the work I’d done and he illustrated some images that I animated in a Cut-out style (like the Goldilocks commercial, but simpler artwork). I LOVE waiting my time and the company’s time and money! But at least it got done on time and on budget.
Anyway, on to the fun stuff. Friday night, we traded in our gas-guzzling van for a 2007 Chevy Malibu. Here’s a picture:
It’s a little cozier, but a better choice considering my daily commute to and from Sandy.
Sunday was Mother’s Day. Since I’d already gotten Amanda some gifts for May 3rd, I didn’t get her much for Mother’s Day. I got her the book of “Pride and Prejudice” and I made her a big fancy breakfast. OK, so she helped make it, too, after realizing that it was a LOT of work to make Stuffed French Toast, hash browns, eggs, and bacon all at the same time.
I let her relax as much as I could, and she fell asleep watching the A&E Pride and Prejudice (can you blame her?! But that Colin Firth sure is dreamy…) While she was in the shower Sunday morning, the kids and I cleaned the front room for her, and they yelled at her, telling her she’s not allowed in the front room til we were done.
Last night we sat and watched Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, #2 in the Indy Trilogy. We had eyeballs and eels for dinner (spaghetti and meatballs—but the meatballs had olive slices on top of them to look like irises). And of course chilled monkey brains, like in the movie (OK, so ours was sliced up strawberry Jell-o, but still…)
For dessert we had Willie Scott’s Ice Scream (with WHIP-Ped topping).:
And Shankara Stone Brownies (the magic rocks with three white stripes on them that Indiana was trying to get from the bad guys):
Well, that’s about all I can think of right now. Have fun and be sure to visit the 10 Years of Magic blog, too!

Glasses, Boulders, and a Kick Start!
Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone! Hope you’re all celebrating! We paid tribute to Mexican heritage and pride by having English muffin pizzas for dinner!!!
The biggest news here at the Peterson home is that Madison got glasses! Last Sunday (a week ago—we skipped church yesterday…) we were in sacrament meeting, 2nd or 3rd row from the front, and Maddy couldn’t read the hymn numbers up on the stand. So Amanda took her to America’s Best on Monday and got her eyes checked. Yep, she inherited the rotten, nearsighted (which describes our vision as well as our approach to life) Peterson eyes. But she just looks so darn cute:
These are her Scooby-Doo frames, which she got to look like Velma, I guess:
This past week was also the premiere of the Maverik Kick Start TV Show, which I do a lot of the motion graphics for. Here’s a trailer:
(I did the text graphics on that ad).
There was a premiere on Wednesday night at a movie theatre in Sandy, UT. It airs Saturday nights at 10:30pm on a Utah station (KJZZ14) as well as airing in Idaho. Episodes will also be available on http://www.maverik-kickstart.com
We’re also getting excited for the newest Indiana Jones movie, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Each weekend this month, we’re watching an Indiana Jones movie, leading up to the newest movie, which we’re going to go see opening weekend. This past Sunday, we watched Raiders of the Lost Ark. As a treat during the movie, we made” no-bake boulders” (no-bake cookies in the shape of boulders, obviously referencing the famous “giant boulder scene” in the movie):
Abe and the kids miss Disneyland. Here’s Abe in their makeshift Pirate of the Caribbean ride:
Here are some other miscellaneous tidbits:
One of Amanda’s co-workers had a bed she didn’t need anymore, and gave it to us for Abe. Here are the kids enjoying it:
We’ve been potty training Abe. While I’m sure we’ll still have some mistakes, he had no accidents at all today, after only 5 days of training!
Here he learns the most important aspect of using the bathroom—finding something good to read:
We also painted a bunch of pictures with fluorescent paint, which we hung up in my room.
They look awesome under the black light!
